The opportunity
CakesbyBIMS’ previous website ran on an ageing WordPress theme carrying stock photography and Lorem Ipsum copy on its About and Contact pages, despite the business having genuine cake photography and a loyal following. The brief I set myself was to keep everything that already worked — the “Baked with Love” story and real social links — while replacing the rest with a faster, more personal experience.
The approach
I rebuilt the site with Next.js App Router, TypeScript and Tailwind CSS v4, giving each navigation item its own dedicated route rather than mixing scroll-anchors into the nav. Real product photography from the business’s media library replaced stock imagery throughout, and a filterable gallery with a lightbox gives visitors a proper way to browse past work by occasion.
Service pricing was deliberately removed: the previous site never published real prices, so every service now links to a contact page built around a tailored quote instead of a fabricated “from £X” figure. The enquiry form itself needed no backend — it opens the visitor’s email client with a pre-filled message, keeping the project dependency-free to host and maintain.
Contribution
- Rebuilt the site end-to-end with Next.js, TypeScript and Tailwind CSS v4.
- Replaced stock imagery with real CakesbyBIMS product photography.
- Built a filterable, lightbox-enabled gallery organised by occasion.
- Implemented a dependency-free, client-side enquiry form.
Project gallery
Selected screens and project moments.

A filterable gallery replaced a generic WordPress media grid with real cake photography.

Services link straight to a tailored quote instead of publishing unreliable prices.
